Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the smoker from the outlet and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.
Steps to check the temperature sensor:
- Locate the temperature probe inside the smoker cabinet (usually a metal probe or small bulb protruding from the back or side wall).
- From the rear or bottom access panel, trace the sensor wires to the electronic control board.
- Inspect the sensor wires for cuts, burns, or rodent damage. Repair any obvious damage with high‑temperature wire and proper connectors, or replace the sensor harness.
- Check the sensor plug at the control board. Make sure it is fully seated and not corroded. Unplug and re‑plug the connector several times to clean light oxidation.
- If you have a multimeter, measure resistance across the sensor leads with the smoker unplugged. An open (infinite) reading indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace the temperature sensor assembly if wiring and connections look good but the E1 code persists.
When to stop: If you are not comfortable removing panels or using a meter, or if the wiring appears burned near the control board, stop and contact a qualified appliance technician.
