Possible Causes
Shorted temperature sensor, Moisture intrusion into sensor, Sensor wire insulation melted against cabinet, Faulty control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the smoker and let it cool fully before inspection.
Inspection steps:
- Open the smoker door and locate the internal temperature probe. Check for heavy grease buildup or moisture pooling around the probe. Clean gently with a non‑abrasive pad and degreaser, then dry thoroughly.
- Remove the rear or bottom access panel to expose the sensor wiring. Look for melted insulation where the wire passes near the heating element or metal edges.
- If insulation is damaged and conductors are touching the cabinet or each other, replace the sensor harness. Do not tape over high‑heat damage; use proper high‑temperature wiring.
- Disconnect the sensor from the control board and check resistance with a multimeter. A near‑zero reading (short) or wildly fluctuating reading indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace the temperature sensor probe if readings are abnormal. If a new sensor does not clear E2, the electronic control board may be defective and should be replaced.
Note: Avoid spraying water directly into the cabinet probe area when cleaning; excess moisture can damage the sensor.
