Possible Causes
Blocked exhaust vent, Failed high‑limit thermostat, Grease buildup causing localized overheating, Faulty control board temperature logic
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the smoker and allow it to cool completely. Grease and surfaces may be extremely hot.
Steps to address overheat fault:
- Inspect the exhaust vent and any intake openings. Clear away foil, debris, or heavy grease that may be blocking airflow.
- Open the cabinet and check for heavy grease buildup on walls, racks, and around the heating element. Clean thoroughly with a degreaser rated for cooking appliances. Avoid soaking electrical parts.
- Locate the high‑limit thermostat (usually a small round or rectangular thermostat mounted on the back wall or near the top of the cabinet with two wires). Check for a manual reset button; if present, press it firmly until it clicks.
- Inspect wiring to the high‑limit thermostat for burns or loose terminals. Tighten or replace terminals as needed.
- If the smoker repeatedly trips E3 after cleaning and resetting, test the high‑limit thermostat with a meter for continuity at room temperature. Replace it if open.
- If a new high‑limit thermostat does not resolve the issue, the electronic control board may be misreading temperature and should be replaced.
Warning: Do not bypass or jumper the high‑limit thermostat; this is a critical safety device.
