How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the smoker before removing any control panel screws or covers.
Basic checks:
- Verify the outlet is providing stable power by testing another appliance or using a plug‑in tester. Avoid using long or undersized extension cords.
- Remove the control panel bezel to access the electronic control board. Inspect for burnt spots, bulging capacitors, or a burnt smell.
- Check all wire harness plugs going into the control board. Reseat each connector firmly.
- Look for signs of moisture intrusion behind the control panel. If present, dry the area thoroughly and consider adding a drip shield or gasket.
If E4 persists:
- The control board is likely defective. Order the correct Smokin Tex control board by model and serial number.
- Label and photograph all connections before removal. Transfer wires one by one from the old board to the new board.
- Secure the new board and reassemble the control panel before testing.
Note: If you see extensive charring or melted wiring, stop and have a professional evaluate for safety.
