Possible Causes
Worn thermostat shaft, Grease contamination inside thermostat, Broken knob or stripped knob insert, Bent control shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the smoker and ensure it is cool before working near the control.
Steps:
- Pull the thermostat knob straight off the shaft. Inspect the knob insert for cracks or stripping; replace the knob if damaged.
- Check the thermostat shaft for bending or wobble. If bent, the thermostat should be replaced.
- If the shaft is extremely stiff or does not click, the internal mechanism is failing. Replace the thermostat with the correct Smokin Tex part.
- When installing the new thermostat, transfer wires one at a time from the old unit to avoid miswiring.
Note: Do not lubricate the thermostat shaft with household oils; they can migrate inside and cause failure.
