Possible Causes

Wood box not seated over element, Incorrect wood chip size or moisture, Element not contacting wood box properly, Excessive air leaks cooling the box

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Use heat‑resistant gloves when adjusting the wood box during or after a cook.

Steps:

  • Verify the wood box is installed in the correct position directly above the heating element as specified in the Smokin Tex manual.
  • Ensure the element is not bent away from the wood box area. If it is, carefully adjust or replace the element so it sits under the box as designed.
  • Use dry, seasoned hardwood chips or small chunks. Avoid water‑soaking the wood; excess moisture delays smoldering.
  • Check the door gasket and cabinet seams for large leaks that may be cooling the wood box. Replace the gasket if it is torn or flattened.
  • Preheat the smoker for 20–30 minutes with the wood box loaded to initiate smoke before adding food.

Note: Overfilling the wood box can restrict airflow and reduce smoke; follow the manufacturer's recommended quantity.
