Possible Causes
Low grid voltage at supply terminals, Loose line or neutral connection in input terminal block, Undersized or overheated supply wiring, Faulty upstream breaker or contactor feeding the charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the upstream breaker feeding the ABB EV home charger and verify absence of voltage with a multimeter before opening any covers. If you are not qualified to work on mains voltage, contact a licensed electrician.
- Check supply voltage: With power restored and using a true-RMS multimeter, measure line-to-line (or line-to-neutral) voltage at the charger’s input terminals. Compare to the rated input on the ABB nameplate (e.g., 208–240 V). If voltage is significantly below spec, the issue is with the house supply or circuit, not the charger.
- Inspect input terminal block: De-energize again. Remove the front cover and inspect the ABB input terminal block for loose screws, discoloration, or melted insulation. Tighten all line and neutral terminals to the torque specified in the ABB installation manual.
- Check upstream breaker and wiring: Inspect the breaker feeding the charger for signs of overheating or damage. Ensure the wire gauge matches ABB’s requirements for the charger’s rated current. Replace any overheated or undersized conductors.
- Reset and test: After tightening and verifying wiring, re-energize the circuit, clear the error (power cycle the charger), and attempt a new charging session. If E001 persists with correct supply voltage, the internal power supply board may be faulty and should be serviced by an ABB-authorized technician.
