Possible Causes
Open or shorted CP conductor in cable, Faulty CP driver circuit on control board, Incorrect CP duty cycle due to firmware error, Contamination or damage on CP pin in connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Function: The control pilot line communicates charging state and current limits between the ABB charger and the EV.
- Visual inspection: Inspect the CP pin in the connector for dirt, corrosion, or mechanical damage. Clean with contact cleaner and a non-metallic brush.
- Test with another EV: Try charging a different vehicle to determine if the issue is vehicle-side or charger-side.
- Check cable continuity (technician): With power off, a technician can test continuity of the CP conductor from the control board terminal to the connector pin. Replace the cable if open or shorted.
- Firmware update: If ABB provides firmware updates via app or service tool, ensure the charger firmware is up to date, as some CP issues can be firmware-related.
- Replace control board: If the cable is good and firmware is current, the CP driver/sensing circuit on the main control board may be faulty and the board should be replaced.
