Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation grills, Failed internal cooling fan, High ambient temperature exceeding ABB specs, Degraded thermal interface on power module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: Overheating protection prevents permanent damage to the charger.

  • Check ambient conditions: Ensure the charger is not installed in direct sunlight or in a confined, unventilated space. Compare ambient temperature to the allowable range in the ABB manual.
  • Clean vents: Power off the charger and gently vacuum or brush dust and debris from all ventilation openings and fan inlets.
  • Verify fan operation: During start-up or charging, observe whether the internal cooling fan starts and runs smoothly. If the fan does not run or is noisy, it may be failing.
  • Reduce load: Temporarily reduce the maximum charging current via the ABB configuration interface to lower internal heat generation and see if E009 stops occurring.
  • Replace cooling components: If the fan is defective, replace the ABB-specified cooling fan assembly. Persistent overtemperature with a working fan may indicate a failing power module that should be replaced by a technician.
