Possible Causes
Damaged Type 2 charging cable, Bent or contaminated pins in vehicle inlet, Faulty CP/PP sensing circuit on main control board, Loose wiring between charge controller and socket outlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the Alfen charger at the upstream breaker or isolator before touching any wiring. Do not work on live circuits.
- Step 1 – Power cycle: Switch off the charger at the breaker for 2–3 minutes, then power it back on and retry a charging session. Sometimes the CP/PP monitoring circuit recovers after a reset.
- Step 2 – Inspect the Type 2 plug and vehicle inlet: Check for bent pins, corrosion, dirt, or melted plastic on the plug and the vehicle inlet. Clean gently with a dry, non‑metallic brush. Do not use liquids or sprays.
- Step 3 – Try a different cable: If your Alfen home charger uses a socket (not tethered cable), test with another known‑good Type 2 cable. If the error disappears, the original cable is likely defective.
- Step 4 – Check socket wiring (socketed models): With power OFF, remove the front cover according to the Alfen installation manual. Verify that the CP and PP conductors are firmly clamped in the terminal block on the socket outlet and on the main control board. Look for loose screws, discoloration, or damaged insulation.
- Step 5 – Inspect control board: Look for obvious damage (burn marks, swollen components) on the Alfen main control PCB around the CP/PP input section. Do not attempt component‑level repair; the board should be replaced as a unit.
- When to call a technician: If wiring and cable are fine and E001 persists, a certified EVSE technician should test the CP/PP circuit with an EVSE tester and likely replace the main control board or socket outlet module.
