Possible Causes
Disconnected or high-resistance earth conductor, Corroded earth terminal inside charger, Faulty PE monitoring circuit on main PCB, Incorrect TN/TT earthing configuration in installation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: A missing or faulty earth is dangerous. Do not bypass earth checks or operate the charger until the issue is resolved.
- Step 1 – Visual check of earth conductor: With power OFF, open the charger and confirm that the green/yellow earth conductor is securely clamped to the earth terminal and chassis.
- Step 2 – Tighten earth terminals: Tighten the earth terminal screw to the torque specified in the Alfen manual. Check for corrosion or discoloration and clean contact surfaces if needed.
- Step 3 – Continuity test: A qualified electrician should perform an earth continuity test from the charger chassis back to the main earth bar to ensure low resistance.
- Step 4 – Verify earthing system: Confirm that the installation earthing type (TN, TT, etc.) matches the Alfen charger’s configuration and local regulations. Some models require specific PEN fault detection arrangements.
- Step 5 – PCB PE sensing: If the earth wiring is correct and E007 persists, the PE monitoring circuit on the main PCB may be defective.
- When to call a technician: Earth faults must be corrected by a licensed electrician. PCB replacement should be done by an Alfen service partner.
