Possible Causes

Damaged CP line in cable, Faulty vehicle inlet electronics, Defective CP driver on Alfen main PCB, Incorrect resistor network in socket outlet module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power before opening the charger. Do not probe live CP circuits without proper equipment.

  • Step 1 – Try another vehicle: Connect a different EV to determine if the issue is vehicle‑specific.
  • Step 2 – Inspect cable and plug: Check the Type 2 plug for bent or recessed CP pin. Inspect the cable for damage or kinks.
  • Step 3 – Test with another cable (socketed units): If your Alfen charger has a socket, use a different Type 2 cable. If E008 clears, replace the original cable.
  • Step 4 – Internal CP wiring: With power OFF, trace the CP conductor from the socket or tethered cable gland to the main PCB. Ensure all terminals are tight and the conductor is intact.
  • Step 5 – PCB diagnostics: Using the Alfen service tool, check CP status values (voltage levels, duty cycle) if available. Abnormal readings with a known‑good vehicle and cable indicate a PCB fault.
  • When to call a technician: CP signal analysis and PCB replacement should be carried out by a trained EVSE technician.
