Possible Causes
Authorization mode misconfigured (RFID required but not presented), Schedule or smart charging window preventing start, Vehicle timer overriding charger, Weak CP signal due to marginal cable or connector wear
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly plug/unplug under heavy rain or with wet hands.
- Step 1 – Check authorization: Confirm whether your Alfen charger is set to free charging or RFID authorization. Present a valid RFID card if required.
- Step 2 – Review schedules: In the Alfen app or web portal, check if a charging schedule or off‑peak timer is active that blocks immediate charging.
- Step 3 – Check vehicle settings: Many EVs have their own departure timers or charge limits. Disable any timers and set the vehicle to charge immediately.
- Step 4 – Reinsert plug: Unplug the connector fully, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in firmly until it clicks. Ensure the plug is fully seated.
- Step 5 – Try another cable/vehicle: If possible, test with a different EV or cable to isolate whether the issue is with the charger or the vehicle/cable.
- When to call a technician: If the charger never starts sessions with any vehicle and no errors are logged, a technician should check CP/PP levels and controller logs.
