Possible Causes
UV exposure degrading cable jacket, Repeated sharp bending near handle or entry gland, Chemical exposure to cable, Low-temperature embrittlement in cold climates
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Damaged cable insulation can expose live conductors. Turn OFF the breaker and do not use the charger until the cable is inspected.
- 1. Visual inspection:
- Examine the entire length of the AMPROAD cable for cracks, splits, or flat spots.
- 2. Check strain relief:
- Ensure the cable gland at the charger entry is tight and not cutting into the jacket.
- 3. Avoid sharp bends:
- Re-route the cable to avoid tight loops or kinks when stored.
- 4. Replace cable: If any damage to the insulation is found, replace the entire AMPROAD J1772 cable & handle assembly. Do not attempt to tape or patch high-voltage EV cables.
