Possible Causes
Moisture inside charge handle or vehicle inlet, Damaged insulation in AMPROAD output cable, Faulty internal GFCI / RCD module, Contaminated or wet terminal block inside charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This is a ground fault condition. Do not continue using the charger until the cause is identified. Turn OFF the breaker and verify the unit is de-energized.
- 1. Inspect for moisture:
- Check the J1772 handle for signs of water ingress, condensation, or corrosion.
- If the charger is installed outdoors, inspect the enclosure gasket and cable entry glands for leaks.
- 2. Dry the components:
- Allow the handle and cable to dry in a warm, dry area for at least 24 hours.
- Do not use heat guns directly on plastic parts.
- 3. Inspect the cable:
- Look for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections that could expose conductors.
- If any damage is found, replace the AMPROAD output cable assembly.
- 4. Internal inspection (qualified persons only):
- Open the charger enclosure with power OFF.
- Check the internal GFCI/RCD module and wiring for signs of moisture, corrosion, or carbon tracking.
- Tighten terminal block screws and ensure no strands are loose or touching the enclosure.
- 5. Test after drying:
- Once everything is dry and visually sound, re-energize the breaker and test with a known-good vehicle.
- If E03 persists, the internal GFCI/RCD module or main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced.
- Do not bypass safety: Never bypass or short the ground fault detection circuit. If you cannot clear E03 with basic checks, contact an AMPROAD-authorized technician.
