Possible Causes
Utility line overvoltage, Incorrect supply wiring (e.g., 3-phase to single-phase unit), Failed surge protection / MOV network on input board, Loose or overheated input terminal connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Overvoltage can damage equipment and create fire risk. Turn OFF the breaker and lock it out before opening the charger.
- 1. Verify supply voltage:
- Use a multimeter (by a qualified person) at the service panel to confirm the line-to-line and line-to-neutral voltages match the AMPROAD charger rating (e.g., 208–240 V AC).
- If voltage is consistently high, contact your utility or an electrician.
- 2. Inspect input wiring:
- Open the charger and check the input terminal block.
- Ensure hot, hot, and ground are correctly landed; no neutral on a line terminal unless specified by AMPROAD.
- Tighten all terminal screws to the specified torque.
- 3. Check for surge damage:
- Inspect the input/surge protection board for burnt MOVs, discoloration, or cracked components.
- If any surge components are damaged, replace the input/surge protection board.
- 4. Reset and test:
- After correcting wiring and replacing any damaged parts, restore power at the breaker.
- Clear the E04 by power-cycling and attempt a charge session.
- 5. Add external protection: In areas with frequent surges, consider installing a whole-home surge protector upstream of the AMPROAD charger.
