Possible Causes
Deformed plastic housing on Type 2 plug, Contamination or corrosion on pins, Damaged latch mechanism on plug or vehicle inlet, Misalignment due to cable strain
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the connector; you may damage the vehicle inlet or charger.
- Visual inspection: Examine the plug for cracks, melted areas, or bent pins. Check the latch for smooth operation.
- Clean contacts: Use a soft, dry cloth or isopropyl alcohol on a swab to gently clean the pins. Do not use abrasives or lubricants.
- Check cable strain relief: Ensure the cable is not pulling the plug at an angle when inserted. Adjust cable routing or support to reduce strain.
- Replace connector/cable: If insertion remains difficult or pins are visibly damaged, replace the entire cable assembly with an Audi-approved Type 2 cable.
For persistent latch issues on the vehicle side, have the vehicle inlet inspected by an Audi service center.
