Possible Causes

Failed actuator in Type 2 connector lock, Jammed locking pin due to dirt or ice, Faulty lock position sensor or microswitch, Broken wiring between lock actuator and main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not force the connector lock with tools; you may damage the plug or housing.

  • Inspect for obstruction: Check the area around the Type 2 socket on the wallbox for dirt, stones, or ice. Gently remove any foreign objects. In cold climates, allow ice to melt naturally; do not pour boiling water on the connector.
  • Cycle lock via software (if available): Some Audi chargers allow manual lock/unlock via app or front panel. Attempt to lock and unlock several times to free a sticking mechanism.
  • Power reset: Turn off the breaker for 2 minutes, then restore power. Sometimes the lock actuator will re-home on startup and clear the error.
  • Check lock wiring: With power off and cover removed by a professional, inspect the small harness going to the lock actuator and position sensor. Ensure connectors are fully seated and wires are not pinched.
  • Replace lock assembly: If the actuator does not move or the sensor does not change state when commanded, replace the connector locking mechanism assembly with an Audi-approved part.

Do not bypass the locking system; it is a safety feature. Replace defective lock components to restore normal operation.
