Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: A PEN or earth fault is dangerous. Do not use the charger until the issue is resolved by a qualified electrician.
- Visual check of earth conductor: With power off, verify that the PE (earth) conductor is securely connected at the wallbox terminal block and at the distribution board. Look for loose screws or damaged wires.
- Measure earth continuity: An electrician should measure continuity and impedance of the earth path from the wallbox to the main earthing point. High resistance indicates a poor connection that must be corrected.
- Verify earthing system type: Confirm that the installation earthing system (TN-S, TN-C-S, TT) matches Audi’s requirements for the specific charger model. In some regions, additional earth rods or PEN fault detection may be required.
- Internal monitoring check: If the external earth is correct, the internal PEN/earth monitoring circuit on the main control board may be faulty. Replace the main control board if diagnostics confirm incorrect readings.
Never bypass the earth connection or PEN monitoring. Correct the supply wiring or replace faulty monitoring electronics before using the charger again.
