Possible Causes

Damaged pilot signal wire in output cable, Faulty control pilot (CP) circuit on main control board, Corroded or bent pins in J1772/Type 1 connector, Loose internal wiring to pilot signal terminal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the circuit breaker feeding the Besenergy EV charger and verify power is off with a non-contact voltage tester before opening any covers.

Steps to check and correct:

  • 1. Inspect the vehicle connector: Examine the J1772/Type 1 plug for bent, recessed, or corroded pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush. Do not use metal tools that can deform pins.
  • 2. Try a different vehicle (if available): This helps confirm whether the issue is with the charger or the car. If E01 appears with multiple vehicles, the charger is likely at fault.
  • 3. Check the output cable strain relief: With power OFF, gently flex the cable near the charger housing. If the error appears/disappears when moved (after restoring power), the pilot conductor inside the cable may be broken.
  • 4. Open the charger housing (if out of warranty and you are qualified): With power OFF, remove the cover and locate the output cable terminals on the main control board. Verify the pilot wire is firmly clamped and not burnt or broken. Tighten terminal screws gently if loose.
  • 5. If the pilot wire or connector is damaged: Replace the entire output cable/connector assembly. Do not attempt to splice the pilot wire; it must maintain proper impedance and insulation.
  • 6. If wiring and connector look good: The CP circuit on the main control board may have failed. At this point, replacement of the main control board or complete charger is recommended by a qualified technician.

When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable working inside energized equipment, or if the main control board is suspected, contact a licensed EVSE technician or electrician.
