Display shows E03 and charging stops or will not start; unit may click repeatedly as relays attempt to engage.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and lock it out if possible. High-voltage components inside the charger can be lethal.
- 1. Listen for relay operation: With the cover on and power restored, plug in the vehicle and listen. A healthy charger will click once or twice as the contactor engages. Rapid clicking or no click at all suggests relay issues.
- 2. Power down and open housing (qualified only): After turning power OFF, remove the cover. Locate the main power relay/contactor module (usually a block with heavy gauge wires).
- 3. Inspect wiring and terminals: Check for loose screws, discoloration, or melted insulation at the relay terminals. Tighten any loose connections and replace any burnt wiring.
- 4. Check for welded contacts: If the relay appears stuck closed (continuity across contacts even when the unit is off), it is unsafe and must be replaced. Do not attempt to file or repair contacts.
- 5. Replace the relay/contactor: If the coil is open or the relay is welded, replace it with the exact Besenergy-specified contactor model. Ensure all connections are torqued to manufacturer specs.
- 6. If relay tests good: The relay drive circuit on the main control board may be faulty. Board-level repair is not recommended for end users; replace the main control board or entire charger.
When to call a professional: Any work on high-current relays should be done by a qualified technician or electrician familiar with EVSE equipment.
