Possible Causes

Loose J1772 connector in vehicle inlet, Worn latch mechanism on handle, Broken pilot or proximity conductor in cable, Thermal expansion causing marginal connections to open

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not continue using a cable that shows signs of overheating or arcing.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Observe connector fit: While charging, gently wiggle the handle at the vehicle inlet. If charging stops, the connector or inlet is loose.
  • Inspect latch: Ensure the latch fully engages and is not cracked or worn. Replace the handle if the latch does not hold securely.
  • Check for heat: After a session, feel the handle and cable near the handle for excessive warmth (should be warm at most, not hot).
  • Cable flex test: With the charger idle, flex the cable along its length and near the strain relief while watching the display for state changes.

If movement of the cable or handle causes interruptions, replace the Blink J1772 cable and handle assembly. If the issue only occurs with one vehicle, have the vehicle inlet inspected.
