Possible Causes

Pilot signal not reaching vehicle, Faulty J1772 handle latch or proximity switch, Contactor coil not energizing, Configuration set to zero or very low current

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the charger. Do not attempt live contactor tests unless qualified.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Check vehicle settings: Ensure the EV is not set to delayed charging or limited to a very low current that the Blink unit interprets as idle.
  • Inspect connector and latch: Confirm the J1772 handle is fully inserted and the latch clicks into place. Clean the connector if dirty.
  • Listen for contactor: When starting a session, listen for a click from inside the charger. No click suggests a contactor or control issue.
  • Verify current setting: Using the Blink interface, confirm the maximum current is set appropriately for the circuit and not at zero.
  • Internal check: With power OFF, inspect the contactor coil wiring and control board connectors for looseness or damage.

If the charger consistently refuses to energize with multiple vehicles and settings are correct, the contactor or main control board may need replacement.
