Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the Blink charger at the breaker before opening any covers. EVSE circuits are typically 40–60A and can be lethal.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- Power cycle the unit: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Reconnect the vehicle and see if E01 clears.
- Inspect the J1772 connector: With power OFF, check the charge handle for cracks, burn marks, or bent pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush.
- Check the cable strain relief: Look where the charge cable enters the Blink enclosure. If the cable jacket is pulled, cut, or kinked, the pilot conductor may be damaged. Do not use the charger if the cable is compromised.
- Test with another vehicle: If possible, plug into a different EV to rule out a vehicle-side pilot fault.
- Internal inspection (advanced): With power OFF and cover removed, trace the pilot conductor from the cable gland to the main control board. Look for loose terminal screws, broken conductors at the terminal block, or burned components near the pilot driver circuit.
When to stop: If the cable or connector is damaged, or if you suspect a control board failure, do not attempt board-level repair. Replace the affected assembly or contact a qualified EVSE technician.
