Possible Causes

Welded main power contactor, Mechanical failure of contactor coil, Faulty contactor driver circuit on control board, Overheated or carbonized contactor contacts from repeated overloads

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the dedicated EVSE breaker and verify absence of voltage with a meter before touching internal components.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge (before E03 appears), you should hear a distinct click from inside the Blink unit. No click or a loud buzzing suggests a contactor issue.
  • Visual inspection: With power OFF and cover removed, locate the main power contactor. Check for discoloration, melted plastic, or burnt smell.
  • Manual test (advanced): With power still OFF, gently press the contactor armature (if accessible) to see if it moves freely. A stuck armature indicates mechanical failure.
  • Check coil wiring: Verify that the low-voltage control wires from the main control board to the contactor coil are firmly seated and not burned.
  • Replace if welded: If the contactor shows signs of welding or overheating, it must be replaced with a Blink-approved contactor of the same rating. Do not attempt to file or clean welded contacts.

Note: Because this involves high-current mains wiring, replacement should be done by a licensed electrician or EVSE technician.
