Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the charger to cool before touching. Turn off power at the breaker before opening the enclosure.
Steps to troubleshoot:
- Check installation environment: Ensure the Blink charger has the required clearance around it and is not installed in a confined, unventilated space or in direct sun beyond its rating.
- Inspect vents and fan: Look for dust buildup or obstructions on any ventilation slots. If a fan is present, verify it spins freely and is not clogged.
- Check for hot spots: After a brief operation (if safe), use a non-contact IR thermometer to check temperature around the contactor and terminal blocks. Excessive heat may indicate loose connections.
- Tighten terminals: With power OFF, tighten all high-current lugs on the line and load side of the contactor and terminal blocks.
- Temperature sensor: Locate the thermistor or temperature sensor on the control board or heat sink. Ensure it is firmly attached and its wiring is intact.
If E08 recurs under normal ambient conditions and airflow is adequate, the temperature sensor or main control board may need replacement. Persistent thermal faults should be evaluated by an EVSE technician.
