Possible Causes

Damaged proximity switch in J1772 handle, Broken proximity wire in charge cable, Bent or worn latch mechanism on connector, Faulty proximity input circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the connector wiring.

Steps to troubleshoot:

  • Inspect the latch: Check that the mechanical latch on the J1772 handle moves freely and fully engages when plugged into the vehicle. Clean debris and lightly lubricate with a plastic-safe lubricant if needed.
  • Check for physical damage: Look for cracks or deformation around the latch area that could affect the internal proximity switch.
  • Cable flex test: With the vehicle unplugged and charger powered, gently flex the cable near the handle while observing the display. Intermittent E10 suggests a broken proximity conductor.
  • Internal wiring check: With power OFF and cover removed, verify that the proximity conductor from the cable is securely landed on the correct terminal of the main control board.
  • Replace handle assembly: If the proximity switch is faulty or the cable conductor is open, replace the Blink J1772 charge cable and handle assembly.

If wiring and handle are good but E10 persists, the proximity sensing circuit on the main control board may require replacement.
