Possible Causes

Faulty proximity switch in Type 2 plug, Stuck latch mechanism on plug, Firmware not updating session state, Damaged proximity conductor in cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the vehicle is actually unplugged before troubleshooting. Do not force the plug latch.

  • Inspect plug latch: Check that the latch on the Type 2 plug moves freely and returns to its rest position.
  • Clean plug: Remove dirt or debris around the latch and handle with a dry cloth.
  • Power-cycle Wallbox: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON, and check if the session state resets.

If the Wallbox consistently fails to detect unplugging, the proximity switch or wiring in the cable is likely defective. Replacement of the cable assembly by a BMW-authorized technician is recommended.
