Charge Session Not Initiating
BMW EV charger powers on but vehicle will not start charging; LED ring stays blue or white, no error code shown

Possible Causes
Access control set to RFID or app authorization and not granted, Misconfigured maximum current or phase settings, Faulty proximity or pilot signal in cable, Vehicle-side charging settings preventing charge
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is required for these checks.
- Check access mode: In the BMW Wallbox settings, confirm whether RFID or app authorization is required. If so, present an authorized card or start the session via the app.
- Verify vehicle settings: On the BMW iDrive or EV charging menu, ensure charging is enabled and not limited to specific times or low current.
- Try another cable position: Fully insert the Type 2 plug into the vehicle until you hear the latch click. A partially inserted plug can prevent charging without showing a code.
- Test with another EV: If another vehicle charges normally, the issue is likely with the original vehicle.
If no vehicle will start charging and configuration is correct, the pilot/proximity circuit or control board may be faulty. Contact a BMW service partner for further diagnosis.
