Possible Causes

Disconnected RFID reader cable inside front panel, Failed RFID antenna or reader board, Physical damage to front panel, Firmware not recognizing reader

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the breaker before any physical inspection. Do not pry open the front panel unless the manual allows it.

  • Test multiple cards: Try several known-good BMW Charging RFID cards or fobs.
  • Check access mode: Temporarily set the Wallbox to free access in settings to confirm that charging works without RFID.
  • Power-cycle: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON, and test the reader again.

If the reader remains completely unresponsive, the RFID module or its connection is likely faulty. A BMW-authorized technician should open the unit, check the reader harness, and replace the RFID module or front panel.
