BMW Wallbox frequently reduces charging current automatically, even though settings allow higher current

• Check environment: Ensure the Wallbox is not installed near heat sources or in direct sunlight. Improve shading and airflow if necessary.
• Review load management: If connected to a BMW load management system or external meter, verify that configured limits are correct and not overly conservative.
• Monitor temperature: During a charging session, lightly touch the Wallbox housing; it may be warm but should not be too hot to touch. Excessive heat suggests internal issues.
• Check supply cable size: Have an electrician verify that the supply cable is correctly sized for the configured current and length.

If derating continues under normal temperatures and correct wiring, the internal temperature sensor or power module may be faulty and should be evaluated by a BMW service partner.
