Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the BMW Wallbox circuit breaker and verify no voltage at the unit before touching wiring. Never open the vehicle inlet.
- Power-cycle the Wallbox: Switch the dedicated breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Wait for the Wallbox to boot and check if the error clears.
- Inspect the charge connector: Examine the BMW Type 2 plug for bent pins, melted plastic, or heavy dirt. Clean light debris with a dry, lint-free cloth only. Do not use liquids or metal tools.
- Check cable strain: Ensure the cable is not sharply bent near the handle or Wallbox exit. A hard kink can break the pilot/proximity conductors.
- Test with another EV (if available): If another CCS/Type 2 vehicle charges normally, the issue may be with the original vehicle inlet rather than the Wallbox.
- Check latch switch (if accessible externally): Confirm the plug fully seats and latches in the vehicle. A half‑inserted plug can trigger E01.
If E01 persists after power-cycling and visual checks, the pilot/proximity circuit on the control board or cable assembly is likely damaged. Do not open the sealed Wallbox housing unless you are qualified; contact a BMW-certified electrician or service partner for cable or control board replacement.
