Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the Wallbox breaker and lock it out if possible. Use only insulated tools and follow local electrical codes.
- Verify supply rating: Confirm the Wallbox model (e.g., 11 kW or 22 kW) matches the circuit breaker and cable size. An undersized circuit can cause nuisance trips and E02.
- Check configuration: If your BMW Wallbox supports current setting via DIP switches or app, verify the maximum current is not set higher than the breaker rating. Reduce the configured current and test again.
- Inspect for heat damage: With power off, remove the front cover only if permitted by the manual. Look for discoloration around the main contactor, terminals, and current sensor ring. Any signs of melting or burning require professional replacement.
- Reset and retest: Restore power, clear the error via app or by disconnecting/reconnecting the vehicle, and monitor if charging starts and remains stable.
If E02 recurs immediately with different vehicles, the internal current sensor or contactor assembly is likely defective. Do not continue using the Wallbox; arrange service with a BMW-authorized technician.
