Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation openings on BMW Wallbox housing, Installation in direct sunlight or confined space, Failed internal cooling fan (if equipped), Faulty temperature sensor on control board or power module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not cover or modify the Wallbox housing. Turn off power before cleaning vents.

  • Check installation environment: Ensure the Wallbox is not installed in a sealed cabinet or exposed to direct sun for long periods. Provide shade or ventilation if necessary.
  • Inspect vents: Remove dust, cobwebs, or debris from ventilation slots using a soft brush or vacuum. Do not spray water or cleaners into the unit.
  • Listen for fan operation: During charging, place your ear near the Wallbox. If the model has an internal fan and you never hear it, the fan may have failed.
  • Reduce charging current: If configurable, lower the maximum current in the BMW Wallbox settings to reduce heat generation and test again.

Persistent E08 after improving ventilation suggests a failed temperature sensor, fan, or power module. These components are internal and should be replaced only by a BMW-certified technician.
