Authorization / Access Control Fault
BMW Wallbox shows E10; charging disabled, often accompanied by network or RFID issues
Advertisements
Possible Causes
RFID reader failure in BMW Wallbox front panel, Corrupted user authorization list, Communication error between RFID module and main board, Misconfigured access control mode in BMW Wallbox settings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is required for this step, but do not open the unit unless instructed by BMW documentation.
- Check access mode: Using the BMW Charging app or local configuration interface, verify whether the Wallbox is set to "free access" or "RFID only". Temporarily set to free access and test charging.
- Test multiple RFID cards: Try more than one authorized BMW Charging card or key fob. If none are recognized, the reader may be faulty.
- Re-learn cards: If supported, delete and re-add RFID cards via the configuration interface.
- Power-cycle: Turn the breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON, and test again.
If E10 persists and the RFID reader never responds (no beep or LED), the RFID module or its connection to the main board is likely defective. Replacement of the RFID reader assembly or front panel should be performed by a BMW service technician.
