Real-Time Clock / Time Synchronization Error
BMW EV charger displays E15; internal clock or scheduling functions not working, timed charging fails
Advertisements
Possible Causes
RTC battery failure on control board (if present), Loss of NTP time sync due to network issues, Firmware bug affecting scheduling, Corrupted time settings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No high-voltage work is required for time settings.
- Check network time: Ensure the Wallbox is connected to the internet so it can synchronize time with BMW servers or NTP.
- Manually set time: If supported, set the correct date and time via the configuration interface.
- Disable schedules temporarily: Turn off scheduled charging and test immediate charging to confirm that only the timing function is affected.
- Firmware update: Install any available firmware updates that may address RTC issues.
If E15 persists and the Wallbox loses time after every power cycle, the internal RTC hardware may be defective. Replacement of the control board is typically required.
