Incorrect Current Limit Setting / Derating
Bosch EV charger’s status LEDs indicate ready, but the vehicle only charges at a much lower current than expected.

Possible Causes
Installer current setting too low, Load management limiting current, Overtemperature derating, Vehicle limiting current due to its own constraints
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: No internal access is required.
- Check charger settings: In the Bosch app or installer menu, verify the maximum current setting matches your circuit rating and expectations.
- Review load management: If the charger is part of a load management group, check that group settings are not limiting current.
- Monitor temperature: If the charger is very warm, it may be derating to protect itself. Improve ventilation and shade.
- Check vehicle settings: Some EVs allow the driver to set a maximum charge current. Ensure this is not set too low.
- Service if unexplained: If all settings are correct and the charger still advertises a low current on the pilot, the main PCB may be miscalibrated and require service.
