Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation slots on BYD wallbox enclosure, Failed internal cooling fan, High ambient temperature exceeding design limits, Faulty temperature sensor on power module or main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Overheating can damage components. Allow the charger to cool before touching the enclosure.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure there is at least the manufacturer-recommended clearance around the BYD charger (typically 10–20 cm). Remove any objects blocking vents.
  • Inspect for dust buildup: With power off, gently vacuum or blow dust away from external vents. Do not open the sealed enclosure unless you are qualified.
  • Allow cool-down: Turn off the breaker for 30 minutes to let internal components cool, then restore power and retry.
  • Listen for fan operation: During startup or charging, you should hear the internal cooling fan (if equipped). If silent and E04 recurs, the fan may have failed.
  • Persistent E04 in normal ambient temperatures: A faulty temperature sensor or power module may be misreading. Contact a technician to test the NTC/temperature probe and power module.
