Possible Causes

AC magnetizing noise from main contactor coil, Slight panel vibration due to mounting, Resonance from internal transformer or inductor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not remove the cover while the charger is energized.

Steps to try:

  • Check mounting: Ensure the charger is firmly mounted to a solid wall or backing board. Tighten mounting screws if loose.
  • Observe pattern: A brief click and low hum only while charging is typically normal. Loud, harsh buzzing or crackling is not.
  • Monitor temperature: The enclosure may feel warm during charging but should not be uncomfortably hot.

When to call a technician: If the noise is loud, changes suddenly, or is accompanied by a burning smell or excessive heat, turn OFF the breaker and contact an EVSE technician to inspect the contactor and internal components.
