How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker to the Cadillac EV Home Charger before inspecting the connector or cable.
Steps to try:
- Inspect the latch: Check that the mechanical latch on the J1772 handle moves freely and fully returns when released. Remove any dirt or debris around the latch.
- Check cable flex: Gently flex the cable near the handle while listening for any cracking sounds or feeling for soft spots that might indicate internal damage.
- Test insertion: With power restored, plug the connector firmly into the vehicle until you hear/feel the latch click. If E03 appears only when you move the cable, the proximity wire may be broken inside the cable.
- Try another vehicle (if possible): If E03 occurs with multiple vehicles, the charger’s handle or board is likely at fault.
When to call a technician: A failed proximity switch or broken harness requires replacement of the J1772 handle and cable assembly, or repair of the control board. These are not user-serviceable; contact a qualified EVSE technician or Cadillac support.
