Possible Causes

Broken conductor inside J1772 cable, Loose crimp at connector pins, Damaged strain relief at charger housing, Water ingress into cable end

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker and unplug the connector from the vehicle before inspecting the cable.

Steps to try:

  • Visual inspection: Look for kinks, cuts, flattened sections, or bulges along the cable. Pay special attention near the handle and where the cable enters the charger.
  • Flex test (unpowered): With power OFF and not connected to a vehicle, gently flex the cable along its length. If you hear cracking or feel soft spots, the internal conductors may be damaged.
  • Do not tape over damage: Electrical tape is not an acceptable repair for EVSE cables.

When to call a technician: A damaged cable must be replaced as a complete assembly. Contact Cadillac EVSE service to obtain and install a new J1772 cable and handle assembly.
