How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: Surge damage can leave components partially failed and unsafe.
- Step 1 – Check breaker and GFCI:
- Reset the EVSE breaker and any upstream GFCI devices.
- Step 2 – Visual inspection (qualified):
- With power OFF, open the housing.
- Look for cracked or charred surge protection devices (MOVs) and burn marks on the power board or main control board.
- Step 3 – Replace damaged SPD:
- If the SPD is a discrete, replaceable module, install a new OEM surge protection module.
- Step 4 – Board replacement:
- If boards are visibly damaged or the unit remains nonfunctional, replace the power board and/or main control board.
- Step 5 – Add external protection:
- Consider installing a whole-house surge protector to reduce future risk.
