Possible Causes

Loose J1772 connection, Overheating at vehicle inlet or connector, Vehicle charge timer or limit, Marginal pilot or proximity signal in cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Note: Determine whether the stop is initiated by the EV or the charger using the app logs.

  • Step 1 – Check app session details:
    • Open the ChargePoint app and review the session history.
    • If it says "Ended by driver/EV", the vehicle likely stopped the charge.
  • Step 2 – Inspect connector fit:
    • Ensure the J1772 plug is fully seated and latched.
    • Check for play or looseness; if excessive, the connector may be worn.
  • Step 3 – Temperature check:
    • After a short session, carefully feel the J1772 handle and vehicle inlet.
    • If very hot to the touch, stop using and inspect for damage.
  • Step 4 – Cable replacement:
    • If moving the cable causes charging to stop, the internal conductors or pilot line may be intermittent.
    • Replace the EVSE output cable & J1772 connector assembly.
  • Step 5 – Vehicle settings:
    • Disable any charge limits or schedules in the vehicle to rule out software stops.
