How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Danger: A welded contactor can leave the output energized unexpectedly. Only qualified personnel should service this fault.
- Step 1 – De-energize:
- Turn OFF the EVSE breaker and verify power is off.
- Step 2 – Inspect contactor:
- Open the charger housing.
- Locate the power contactor.
- Check for burn marks, melted plastic, or signs of overheating.
- Step 3 – Mechanical test (qualified):
- With power OFF, manually operate the contactor (if design allows) to see if it moves freely.
- If stuck or welded, replace the contactor.
- Step 4 – Coil and control test:
- Check coil resistance with a multimeter; compare to spec.
- Inspect control wires from the main control board to the contactor for loose or damaged connections.
- Step 5 – Replace faulty parts:
- Install a new power contactor of the same rating.
- If the contactor tests good but the fault persists, the main control board driver circuit may be defective and should be replaced.
