Possible Causes
Broken pilot or proximity conductor in cable, Damaged J1772 connector pins, Faulty pilot driver on control board, Vehicle inlet issue
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before manipulating the cable at the charger end.
- Step 1 – Test with another EV: If another vehicle recognizes the charger, the issue may be with the original vehicle’s inlet.
- Step 2 – Inspect connector: Check for bent or recessed pins in the Chevrolet J1772 handle.
- Step 3 – Wiggle test: With the vehicle plugged in, gently move the cable near the handle. If the vehicle intermittently detects the charger, the cable conductors may be broken internally.
- Step 4 – Internal continuity check: With power OFF, a technician can test continuity of the pilot and proximity wires from the handle to the control board.
- Step 5 – Replace cable assembly: If the pilot or proximity circuit is open, replace the entire cable/handle assembly.
