Possible Causes

Moisture intrusion in charge handle, Ground fault in vehicle inlet or cable, Faulty internal GFCI/CCID module, Damaged ground conductor in supply wiring or charge cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: A ground fault can be hazardous. If you smell burning or see smoke, shut off the breaker immediately and do not reset.

  • Step 1 – Inspect for moisture: Unplug the J1772 connector from the vehicle. Check for water, condensation, or corrosion on the pins and around the handle. Dry thoroughly with a clean cloth and allow to air dry for at least 1 hour.
  • Step 2 – Check outdoor installation: If the Chevrolet home charger is installed outdoors, verify that the weatherproof cover and cable entry glands are intact and sealed. Look for water trails or rust on the enclosure.
  • Step 3 – Reset the charger: Turn OFF the breaker for 5 minutes, then turn it back ON. If the unit has a physical reset button for the GFCI/CCID, press it according to the user manual.
  • Step 4 – Try a different circuit (portable units): For Chevrolet portable home chargers, plug into a different properly grounded outlet. If E02 clears, the original circuit may have a wiring or grounding issue.
  • Step 5 – Professional testing: If E02 persists, an electrician should test the ground continuity and insulation resistance of the branch circuit and the charger cable. The internal GFCI/CCID module may need replacement.
