Possible Causes
Faulty proximity switch in J1772 handle, Broken proximity wire in charge cable, Damaged latch mechanism on Chevrolet connector, Control board proximity input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before manipulating the cable entry into the charger.
- Step 1 – Inspect connector latch: Check that the latch on the J1772 handle moves freely and fully returns when released. Clean any dirt or ice that may obstruct movement.
- Step 2 – Wiggle test: With the vehicle unplugged and charger powered, gently flex the cable near the handle and near the wall unit. If E07 appears or disappears when moving the cable, the internal proximity conductor may be broken.
- Step 3 – Check for physical damage: Look for crushed or sharply bent sections of the Chevrolet-branded cable. Any severe kink near the handle is suspect.
- Step 4 – Avoid strain: Use the provided cable hook or holster to prevent constant tension on the handle and cable when not in use.
- Step 5 – Replace cable assembly: If the proximity switch or wiring is faulty, the entire J1772 cable and handle assembly typically must be replaced as a unit.
