Possible Causes
Open ground in supply circuit, Loose ground lug inside charger, Corroded ground connection in outdoor installation, Faulty ground detection circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not use the charger until the ground fault is resolved. An open ground can be life-threatening.
- Step 1 – Visual ground check: With power OFF, remove the charger cover and verify that the green or bare copper ground wire is securely attached to the ground terminal or bonding point.
- Step 2 – Inspect outdoor connections: For exterior installations, check for rust or corrosion on the ground lug and conduit fittings. Any severe corrosion should be cleaned or replaced by an electrician.
- Step 3 – Test outlet (portable units): Use a plug-in outlet tester with GFCI indication to verify correct wiring and ground presence on the receptacle used by a Chevrolet portable charger.
- Step 4 – Electrician verification: Have a licensed electrician test ground continuity from the panel to the charger using a multimeter or dedicated tester.
- Step 5 – Internal fault: If the external ground is confirmed good but E08 persists, the charger’s internal ground detection circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require replacement.
