Possible Causes
Loose pilot wire connection inside charger, Corroded pilot pin in J1772 connector, Electrical noise on supply line, Failing pilot driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before opening the enclosure or manipulating internal wiring.
- Step 1 – Clean connector: Inspect and gently clean the pilot pin and other contacts in the J1772 handle with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush.
- Step 2 – Cable strain relief: Ensure the cable is properly clamped at the charger entry and not pulling on internal pilot connections.
- Step 3 – Internal wiring check: With power OFF, verify that the pilot conductor is firmly secured in its terminal or connector on the main PCB.
- Step 4 – Reduce electrical noise: Avoid running large inductive loads (e.g., welders, large motors) on the same panel circuits while charging.
- Step 5 – Board replacement: If instability persists, the pilot driver circuit on the control board may be failing and require replacement.
