Possible Causes

Weak or failing contactor coil, Low supply voltage, Mechanical obstruction in contactor, Loose coil wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the breaker before opening the EVSE. Do not touch the contactor while energized.

  • Listen carefully: Determine if the buzzing is coming from the contactor area. A loud, continuous buzz suggests coil issues.
  • Check supply voltage: Have a qualified person verify correct line voltage at the EVSE input. Low voltage can cause coil chatter.
  • Inspect contactor (power OFF): Look for debris or damage around the moving armature. Gently press the armature to ensure it moves freely.
  • Tighten coil terminals: Ensure the small-gauge coil wires are secure on the contactor and control board.

If buzzing persists with correct voltage and free movement, replace the contactor. Continued operation may lead to overheating or failure.
